Default Dr. Rex's Second Round Picks

Oui oui!

It is time for round number two!

We saw a very good first round this year. Marty Turco, Martin Brodeur, and Patrick Lalime are out golfing after shaky series in which they were eliminated. St. Louis got bitten by the Sharks, and Boston pulled a 2000 Philly, losing their series in which they were up 3-1 on Montreal. Calgary is making a leep as they moved past Vancouver, and Nashville showed some light, but were ousted by the NHL's #1 Red Wings. So here ya go, my picks for round 2!

EAST SEMI FINALS

(1)Tampa Bay VS (7)Montreal
-Montreal rallyed the monkey to come back after a shaky start VS Boston. Down 3-1, and on the brink of elimination, Jose Theodore pulled himself together and was unbeatable for the Habs. To say it in a nice way for Montreal, Tampa Bay is going to win this series however. I know I would love to see Montreal compete for the cup, it isn't going to happen.
TAMPA BAY WINS IN 6

(3)Philadelphia VS (4)Toronto
-The Flyers finally broke the Devils Jinx and the Leafs outlasted the Battle of Ontario to meet here in the second round. Ed Belfour is solid right now, but so was Robert Esche vs NJ. Everyone has notice Esche, but they are not making anything out of it. Their excuse? "NJ isn't an offensive team." Everyone is intitled to their oppion, and my oppion: see you on the 18th hole, Sundin and Tucker!
PHILADELPHIA WINS IN 6

WEST SEMI FINALS

(1)Detroit VS (6)Calgary
-The Flames are back on track. Cujo is in goal for the Wings. Iginla is on fire.

The Wings are a Hall of Fame team, but I am simply tired of them winning. As I predicted last roung that NJ would lose, it is Detroits turn.

CALGARY WINS IN 7

(2)San Jose VS (4)Colorado
-I am liking the way this Sharks team is playing. Marleau and Cheechoo are fan favorites and I pick them to light up David Aiebschere(I know, I spelt it wrong). I see the Sharks representing the West this year in the finals, so I pick them to have a time with Colorado.
SAN JOSE WINS IN 6

It is THE best time of the year.

Rex (6-2)

(1)Tampa Bay VS (7)Montreal

I'd love to see the Habs pull another upset , how ever the edge goes to Tampa with its potent offense

Tampa Bay in 7

(3)Philadelphia VS (4)Toronto

The Flyers will looks to knock the Leafs out of the playoffs for the 2nd year in a row , this could be an all out war , but after goin 7 with Ottawa and the Leafs having many players playing hurt and the Flyers all but a few healthy , the Flyers can do it if they stick to the game plan and improve on the play the way they did Vs. NJ ( to many scoring chances )

Flyers In 6

(1)Detroit VS (6)Calgary

After last years 1st round exit and the scare they got from the Preads in the 1st round thw Wings will be lookin to get back to the Cup Finals but must 1st win this series as well as the Conferance Finals, The Flames are young and have talent , but the wing have better goaltending and more balance scoring

Wings in 6

(2)San Jose VS (4)Colorado

This could be a war for the ages asboth teams look to get to the promised land, the Aves are looking to regain thier Championship form and the Sharks will be looking to get to the Conferance Finals for the 1st time in team history

Sharks in 7

He calls Aebischer. And I hope the only Swissboy in the Playoffs shows where he comes from.

Yes, it is the best time of year. How anyone could not be a playoff hockey fan is beyond me.

My picks:

TAMPA vs MONTREAL
The Habs came back from a 3-1 defecit to beat the Bruins. Big Deal. The Bruins were a dead team with a mentally beat rookie goaltender. The Flyers would've swept 'em. Meanwhile, down in Florida resides a really good hockey team, although untested in the playoffs. They'll remain untested this round and be "shocked and awed" in the Conference Finals by the winner of the TOR/PHI series when they get a taste of what real playoff hockey is. BOLTS in FIVE

PHILLY vs TORONTO
On paper, these teams are so evenly matched, it's not funny. During the regular season the Flyers absolutely dominated the Leafs, outscoring them 17-5. The regular season, however, means squat-tah. Looking at the 2 teams the Goaltending, Special Teams, and Defensive play are pretty much even. The Flyers will win because they're the deeper, more healthy squad. Should they win the first two home games, which is entirely possible, I'd say they win in five, but I wont... FLYERS in SIX

DETROIT vs CALGARY
Read my lips. The Flames have NO SHOT. Detroit got past their annual first round jitters. The Flames beat a Vancouver team without it's best player (Bertuzzi) for the entire series, and it's starting goaltender (Cloutier) for the last 4 games. Beyond Iginla, Craig Conroy is the Flames second best scorer. Craig WHO? Exactly. DETROIT in FOUR

SAN JOSE vs COLORADO
The way the Avs are playing is what was expected when they signed Selanne & Kariya. Aesbischer won't have to worry about duplicating the performance of Roy. The Sharks defeated a confused, and erratic Stars team in round 1. This time around, they're facing a team with unbelievable talent, as well as grit. AVS in SIX
