Post Game Report: Vs Devils 2/10 Who needs Burke? We've got Nitty! Antero is now 3-0-0 in his first three starts in the National Hockey League. He flashed the leather, stacked the pads and closed the angles all night against the defending Stanley Cup Champions.
Offense: A four goal game versus the New Jersey Devils? Against Martin Brodeur it's a HUGE surprise, yet a very pleasent one. Simon Gagne,Danny Markov and a host of other Flyers lit the lamp in the 4-1 victory. Grade: A
"D": The only letdown was the Devils goal on the powerplay. Fedoruk was called for slashing and the Devs made the most of some missed assignments on the Flyers defender's part, and scored the only goal on their side for the game. Other than that, even the shots they weren't able to block or deflect, Nitty came up big instead. Grade: A-
Goaltending: A HUGE win for this young goaltender in Antero Nittymaki. 3-0-0 in his first three starts is near unheard of these days in the NHL. He flashed the leather in the Devils' faces all night. Stopping shot, after shot. Very dependable, something we may need down the road depending on the Burke situation. On that note, I believe he'll get the start next game, I can't see why the management wouldn't put him in to start that game. As for the whole Goaltender situation, depending on Burke's performance, we may be in the clear for a while. Let's hope everybody stays healthy and LET'S GO FLYERS! Grade: A+
Overall: The Flyers played great against a large rival. This game will have more of an emotional impact than anything else I think. Could this be the win that gets us over the psyhological hump of not being able to defeat the Senators and the Devils? Let's hope so. I'm anxious to see Burke play. I haven't really payed attention to him since he was sent packing previously.
NOTE*: Roenick left the game with a pulled hamstring. He is likely to return next game.
