Post Game Hive: 11/16/05 Sidney Crosby made his second trip to Philadelphia on Wednesday evening. His Penguins lost to the Flyers last time he was here, tonight was going to be a different story.
Marc-Andre Fluery made some sensational saves on countless Flyer attempts, especially in the third period and in overtime. He literally stood on his head, and earns my respect as one of the factors Pittsburgh won this game.
Sidney Crosby proved his toughness tonight; Derian Hatcher attacked the phenom with high sticks early in the game, chipping a few of his teeth. Hatcher didn't give in, and he nailed Crosby again a few minutes later in the same fashion. How does a young player respond to this? He came out and scored two goals, including the game-winning overtime tally. This kid is the real deal, whether we like it or not. Is he the best rookie in the league? That's another debate for another report.
The Flyers didn't begin to play hockey until they realized that they were in a 2-0 hole to the Penguins. Philadelphia looked out-of-sync in the first period, and played better, and better as the game progressed. In the new NHL, it's not over until it's over, but I still believe that the team with the fastest start has an upper hand in the decision.
This loss ends a 9-game home winning streak. The Wachovia Center has been a very friendly place for the Flyers as of late. Philly needs to regroup and come out firing against the Thrashers on Friday evening; it's a home game, and a great chance for the Flyers to start a new streak.
Joni Pitkanen scored both goals for the Flyers tonight; this guy has really come out of the scoring tunnel as of late, coming through in some very important games, he did all he could tonight.
Sidney Crosby scored two goals tonight, including the overtime winner. Ryan Malone also tallied for Pittsburgh, and assisted on Crosby's winner.
See you all on Friday, let's hope we can get back some momentum and start a new home-winning streak.
