Post Game Hive: 11/8/05 Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the new NHL, and say hello to your comeback kids, the Philadelphia Flyers. Joni Pitkanen proved himself worthy of the first start tonight, scoring the game tying, and game winning goal in overtime in tonight's 4-3 OT win against conference foe Boston.
Peter Forsberg recorded points on some key goals in tonight's game, as he continues to tear up the scoresheet, and Simon Gagne continued his scoring streak here early in the season with a goal tonight at the Wachovia Center.
I will admit, I was not entirely confident that the Flyers were going to be able to make up a two-goal deficit with the time remaining in the game, about four minutes left in regulation. Gagne's tally put the Flyers back in the game, and Pitkanen tied it with just thirty seconds to go in the game.
About midway through the overtime period, Joni Pitkanen's hard work in the crease paid off with a game-winning goal, his second of the game. Where did this scoring touch come from? Hopefully it will continue in the coming weeks.
This is the new NHL, folks. No game is in the bag until the final buzzer sounds, Philadelphia fans realized that tonight with the Flyers' dramatic win.
The Flyers will next host the New York Islanders on Thursday at the Wachovia Center, an arena that has hosted seven straight home wins.
