Post Game Hive: 10/30/05 The new NHL's penalty policies were very evident in tonight's matchup with the Senators. I was amazed at what the men in stripes were calling, every time I looked, another penalty was being called. Frankly, I don't like it one bit. I understand the need for some calls to change with the league's development, but once it gets to a certain point, it's just going to have a negative impact on the game. But that's another article for another time.
Robert Esche made 39 saves between the pipes tonight, earning my respect as the man of the match. He made some key saves at key times in the game, which kept the momentum swinging in the Flyers favor. I heard some rumors that Esche was battling a groin injury. What groin injury? He was looking like the future hall-of-famer tonight, instead of his counterpart playing for the Senators.
Scoring tonight for Philly were Simon Gagne, Mike Knuble (2), Jon Sim, and Jeff Carter.
Ottawa already has the most shots per game percentage in the league, and they added to that tonight, adding 42 tonight. There were also 42 penalty minutes in the game, as evident in the first paragraph of this report I'm not exactly giddy about it.
It was a big win tonight for Philadelphia, however, handing Ottawa their first loss at home, and only the second defeat in the early season. I predicted against the Flyers tonight in GTS, because I wasn't exactly convinced that we could keep up with their speed. We outmuscled them tonight, that's for sure.
GO FLYERS! See you Thursday.
