Is this the new NHL that we've been waiting for? After starting off slowly in the first period, the game exploded with a total of 14 goals being scored in the three periods combined, finishing with an 8-6 decision going to Carolina.

Special Teams were a huge factor in tonight's game. Penalties were being called by the dozens, on both clubs. The true face of our special squads were shown tonight. The game winning goal for Carolina was scored on the powerplay. A penalty taken that late in the game brings up a must-kill, and Philadelphia could not supply it. Granted, our penalty kill has been less than spectacular, same goes for our play with the man advantage. Special teams are key in winning hockey games such as this one, and they need to improve.

Scoring for the Flyers tonight were, Mike Knuble, Derian Hatcher, Jon Sim (2), Peter Forsberg, and Mike Rathje.

It was nice to see Foppa get on the board for the second time in as many games, hopefully he's found his scoring touch but will also keep supplying the assists to Simon Gagne and others.

I noticed Mike Rathje making several defensive mistakes tonight. I don't like to pinpoint the blame for a loss on one person, and I won't do that here. I'd just like to point out his poor play in this game (aside from his goal), he needs to stay sharp in front of our goaltenders.

Next game is against the Ottawa Senators.. it should be an interesting one. Remember that brawlfest last season? Could it happen again?

the flyers looked slow defensively , could be because of a 2nd game on back to back nites, but regardless they gave up two, two goal leads in this game and that in unacceptable

Ouch. I missed the whole game because I had a game last night. Harsh.

2 posts with the same word: SLOW. It's true, the New look NHL is about open ice and speed. I have a feeling Ottawa will skate us into oblivion as well. They are a quick team. Something we lack, especially on the Blue Line.

After an 8-0 slaughter of Toronto, in which they looked to be in a whole other league than the Leafs, and in which they dominated physically as well, the best we can hope for is they come in overconfident.
