Post Game Hive: 10/25/05 Coming into tonight's game against the Montreal Canadians, the Flyers had quite a win streak in hand over the Habs in recent years. Entering the Bell Centre in Montreal tonight, they intended to extend the streak, as well as their season winning streak to four games.
Robert Esche looked strong in tonight's game, making several key saves against some tough opposition. The Flyers netminder is continuing to improve after a mediocre start to the season.
Scoring for the Flyers tonight were Brian Savage and Mike Richards, both were powerplay goals against the Canadians. Richards picked up an assist on the Savage goal as well, he's paying his dividends to the Flyers early this season, surpassing many expectations.
Montreal tied the game with a Mike Ribero goal following a long shot that forced Robert Esche to surrender a dangerous rebound. Ribero was able to move around a diving Esche, and deposit the puck in the back of the net.
Mike Ribero scored in the extra session following a 2-on-1 play that collapsed miserably. The Canadians forward was given a long period of time to pick a corner, and shoot on net. His wrist shot passed a screen, and arrived in the corner of the net, ending the game, and the Flyers winning streaks.
I noticed some undisciplined play from the Flyers tonight. In the final minute of the third period, the Habs were given countless opportunities to end the game in regulation. Unorganized play such as what we saw tonight, will not survive in the new NHL, and the Flyers may need to adjust.
The Flyguys are next in action on Thursday when they take on the Florida Panthers at the Wachovia Center. At this time, Florida trails 3-2 to the Pittsburgh Penquins with 7:22 remaining in the third period.
See you on Thursday..
