Post Game Hive: Vs Washington (9/24) Jon Sim added four points to a 5-2 rout of the Washington Capitals tonight in preseason action at the Wachovia Center.
Sim opened the scoring about midway through the opening period when his shot trickled past Washington's Maxime Ouellet, to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead. He scored a second goal at 9:57 of the second period, when he knocked in Mike Knuble's rebound, and scored again with 2:42 remaining in the game. Mike Richards and Branko Radivojevic also scored for the Flyers (3-0-0).
The Sim-Richards-Knuble line scored a total of nine points in tonight's game, which is going to put some focus on that line once the regular season gets underway. News & Notes Flyers Scratches: Sami Kapanen, Peter Forsberg and Derian Hatcher, while Donald Brashear, Chris Therien and R.J. Umberger were all inactive for tonight's game. Flyers lose shootout: The Flyers lost their first post-game shootout of the preseason tonight 4-3. Although, Brian Savage, Joni Pitkanen, and Jon Sim scored in the shootout. What's Next?
The Flyers have two more home preseason games at the Wachovia Center on Tuesday, September 27 when they host the New York Islanders, and Thursday, September 29 when the New Jersey Devils come to town. My Thoughts:
Jon Sim, who would have thought he would lead the Flyers to a win with a hat trick? While it may only be a postseason hat trick, you'd be suprised what a night like that does to a young player such as Sim. Hopefully, this momentum that he gained tonight, can rollover once the season starts, and he can take his game to the next level, like he showed tonight.
The Flyers went on the first three powerplays tonight, and went 1-3 on those three chances.
Overall, it sounds like the team is coming along well, it's good to see a young guy like Sim step up and show that he can play at this level.
