| I think when he's been healthy he's been all this team could ever need in Net and without question he's been a lot better then the past few year's goaltenders. It wouldn't hurt trying to lock him up long term now and avoid having to over pay for him if he does carry this team (somehow) to the cup finals... | | | | GTS Manager

| He's the best goalie we've had since Hextall I feel. Sign him.

| I dont think we should put all our eggs in one basket. I say sign him now for $2-$3 Million for no more than two years. We should see how that works while at the same time, keep all options open. It needs to be an open contract so, should we need, we can look at trades. Emery has been good, I'm not personally sold on him yet, but I do believe he's one of the best we've had in years. So I feel we should lock him up short term in a low priced contract.

| Voted for waiting until seeing him in the postseason, but I wouldn't be opposed to signing him cheaply now.
He's proven he belongs in the NHL and on this team, but his lack of consistent healthiness worries me a bit. | | | | not a Stepford.

| I'd sign him to another 1 year deal. I'm not so certain he's able to play an entire season injury-free just yet. And we all know our entire team is already overpaid.

| Problem is Drew, he's probably looking for at least a 2 year contract... He definitely doesn't want to return to Russia and wants that insurance that he will at least be here a few years. I personally would probably let him go if he wants more than 2.5 million per, for 2 years... he's been too inconsistent and injury prone. Again though, who is there on the market for the Flyers to sign? Manny fucking Legace?
I would make a bid for Turco, but most likely, he will be re-signed and way overpaid. | | | | King Bee Squared From: Reading, PA Join Date: Aug 2003 Posts: 5,532

| Turco's overrated.
I'm torn on re-signing him now and waiting until the post season to see what he can do. We need a guy who is going to steal us games, and Emery hasn't done that just yet, I don't think. He's been inconsistent and injury prone, but when he was healthy, he was keeping us in games. So, I don't know. If you can sign him cheap before he wants more money after the playoffs (if we make it there), then do it. If not, just wait it out and see if you can get him to negotiate cheaply after the season's over. | | | | This Space for Rent

He seems to have fallen out of favor, as Auld has been getting more starts. I'd like to re-sign him now for a couple of years at $2-2.5m. Don't want to get left without a goalie. And one comment on being injury prone: Everyone on the Flyers is injury prone, thanks to our crack training staff. Seriously, how haven't they been axed yet, they have a terrible track record.

| Well, odds are with DiPietro back, Biron will be shopped. Turco will be be talked about. So even if we wait till the offseason to make a decision, I DOUBT we'd be left without any options.

| I'd pitch him a 2 year deal worth $3.5-4M total. At the very worst, it gives Philly a very good 1A goalie. I'd have to agree with Kev and say that Emery possesses the most skill and fiery competitiveness that the Flyers haven't had since Hexy. Let's face it, Homer doesn't have a ton of cap space to work with and Emery has been a good ROI player this season. Those aren't the type of players you just let walk to, quite possibly, a rival Eastern team over the summer. | | | | Philly Chica/Hive Mommy

| No doubt about it we have to keep him. Sign him long term NOW, and for cheap. We have too many cap troubles to worry about getting a mediocre goalie for a decent price later on down the road. I think Emery has proven himself enough that we can be confident he will do us nothing but good.
He's got the heart of a Flyer and im sure he will give us everything hes got to give since we gave him a second chance in the NHL! | | | | King Bee Squared From: Reading, PA Join Date: Aug 2003 Posts: 5,532

| Well, now he's hurt again.
Homer says it won't hurt negotiations, but I really hope he's smart enough to avoid signing a guy who may have lingering injury issues down the road. | | | | Super Moderator/Big Poppa

Emery's troubles staying healthy means he's a lock to be a Flyer for life. Homer will sign him to a 10 year $50 million deal tomorrow.
Groin pulls are 99.9% due to lack of conditioning after long lay-offs. The Flyers medical & training staff needs to be axed and overhauled completely. (If I had a nickel for every time I've said that...) | | | | | Thanked by: | Andy (February 9th, 2010), Drew (February 9th, 2010) | | |
