| Trade Rumors: 25Jan07 More rumors circulating about Foppa (no surprise there). Some people are suggesting that the Red Wings will try to pick him up and that he'd play better on a deeper team. However, most people are viewing him as "damaged goods" because of his skateboot issue and injury history. While I don't doubt that the Flyers would make a trade if the right deal came along, I think it's 50-50 at this point (though I think they should trade him... even if they re-sign him in the off-season).
(from Philly Inquirer) Forsberg update. Flyers captain Peter Forsberg met with his business partner and foot specialist, Peter Hedstrom, in Sweden on Monday. Forsberg skated for two hours as he attempts to deal with issues with the fit in the skate boot on his surgically repaired right ankle.
The Flyers said they would meet with Forsberg when he returns and attempt to re-sign him. Comcast-Spectacor president Peter Luukko said Forsberg has not expressed an interest at being traded or rented out to another team.

Update on John LeClaire: Sorry Johnny fans, Holmgren has no plans to bring him back at this time. Holmes is sticking with the youth movement. While I agree with this strategy (especially since we're no where near playoff contention), it looks more and more likely the Johnny's career is over.
That's all for today folks...

| That Johnny news made me cry, thanks
This is where I don't agree, what freaking youth movement? We wouldn't be losing anyone at this point and he would most likely retire at the end of the season anyway. Look, we'd need to go 30-2 as someone mentioned to have as many points as 8th place last season. I highly doubt bringing him in would somehow hamper our great chance to make the playoffs.
Christ, why don't those idiots let him play out his last season in style and have his #10 hanging from the rafters? I just don't understand. When your season is in the ****ter anyway and your obviously losing fans, why can't you do something classy? | | | | Senior Member

| Although I get what they're saying with the youth movement, it'd be great to see Johnny back where he belongs, the club owes him that much, I'd say. | | | | do-nothing Hiver

| I'm torn... I see your reasoning but I just don't see what he adds to the team, especially if it means taking ice time from a developing player that could really contribute next year. I'd feel a bit strange about seeing him pulling 4th line duty.

| i know what you mean dutch.
im sure he'd be able to play about 9-10 minutes on the 3rd and 4th lines and contribute on the powerplay for about 3-4 minutes more. I do believe he'd prefer playing 10-15 minutes for the Flyers rather than nothing at the moment.
as for the young players that would be losing icetime, i say demote York, or trade him hehe | | | | do-nothing Hiver

| Update on Foppa to Detroit rumor: In an article in the Swedish tabloid Expressen Nick Lidstrom welcomes Forsberg to Detroit with open arms.“We’ll greet Foppa (Forsberg) with open arms.” Lidstrom says: It would mean a lot to us to have a player like Forsberg playing with us.
--------------
From Eklund:
The Three Rumors of Foppa
Rumor 1-"He isn't going anywhere for two reason"
#1 I don't believe he feels comfortable that he wouldn't go somewhere else, somewhere in a real race, and be hurt.
#2 He does still have loyalty, and the Flyers are starting full-court press to extend him. Peter is valuable to this summer's hope of signing free agents with all the spce they have. Having Peter Forsberg on your team is HUGE when it comes to making your team attractive to the Brieres, Drurys, anf Timonens of the world.
Rumor 2- Peter has given the OK to be traded to three teams
The Rangers, Ducks, and Sharks. I am hearing the Flyer would love Nabokov for Forsberg, and the salaries match up nicely. You would expect the Sharks would want long-term assurance that Peter stays there, but WHY WOULDN'T HE? The Sharks with Peter could win multiple Cups!
Rumor 3- No decision has been made, but four teams interested.
The Rangers, Red Wings, Canadiens, and Avalanche.
This rumor is the one that spawned all sorts of Colorado speculation.
So, how does this play out?
I wish to heck I knew. All I know is that in the end it is Peter's call, and I am not convinced that he knows where he is yet. Were I to pick 1, I would pick Rumor #1 he stays...
Now Sanderson is another story...
--------------
that's it for now (other than the still circulating ridiculous rumor of Theodore for Foppa rumor)

| but seriously though, if they trade Foppa for a goaltender, someone like Theodore then I'll seriously suspect that a monkey is pulling the shots behind closed doors. When will they realize that defense is our #1 right now. We should be fishing for a guys like Liles, Souray etc.. | | | | Forum Enforcer, Wallpaper Designer

| From what I see though, the Red Wings have the greatest chance of picking him up right now. They already have 7 Swedes on their team, and I'm sure they'd like to pick up another. Holland would most likely offer a young player and a very high pick. | | | | | |
