Havlat suspended by the League Ottawa Senators forward Martin Havlat has been suspended for two games, without pay, for a high-sticking incident involving Philadelphia Flyers player Mark Recchi in NHL Game #945 on February 26.
Havlat, who was suspended for two games in January, 2004, is considered a repeat offender under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and forfeits salary based on the number of games in a season (82), rather than the number of days (180). He will forfeit $36,585.36. The money goes to the Players Emergency Assistance Fund.
Havlat was assessed a match penalty under Rule 43(a) - Attempt to Injure, after striking Recchi in the head area with the shaft of his stick, at 3:26 of the third period.
Havlat will miss back-to-back games against Buffalo (Feb. 28 & March 3), and will be eligible to return on March 5 at Philadelphia.
