Default Flyers fall to the Oilers 5-3

Danny Briere scored on a brilliant move in the Flyers 5-3 loss against the Edmonton Oilers.

Scoring for the Flyers:
  • Danny Briere
  • Simon Gagne
  • Jeff Carter

Scoring for the Oilers:
  • Geoff Sanderson (2)
  • Dustin Penner
  • Steve Staios
  • Joni Pitkanen

Ironically, the former Philadelphia Flyers, Joni Pitkanen and Geoff Sanderson, played a LARGE role in Edmonton's rally over Philadelphia on Saturday night. Both Pitkanen and Sanderson looked as if they were rather comfortable in their new system, and didn't seem to have any trouble finding the back of the Flyers net.

Three of Edmonton's 5 goals came in the second period, while the remaining two were banged in during the third. The crusher , a cross slot pass from Marty Reasoner, was scored with 4 seconds left by Geoff Sanderson. This didn't put the nail in the coffin for the Flyers, though. Although they gave up 2 goals in the third period, the effort was still there. Something we haven't seen in almost two years.

In my opinion the MVP of tonight's game for the Flyers was none other than Danny Briere. His passes all found their destinations, and he made his shots count (if he didn't score on them, all the ones I saw caused rebounds).

Philadelphia's Next Game comes Wednesday evening at a challenging 10:30PM EST.
Edmonton is next on this ice Monday night against Detroit.

Please note: The next edition of PGH will be more in-depth.

5-4? I counted only three goals for the orange and black.

Thanks guys.

I was extremely tired when I wrote this, still am, but I'm the worst insomniac to ever walk this earth. When I actually get time to map out a full report and post it, these will look a LOT better. Trust me. Between the game being a late start, then the Phillies game, and problems at home which kept me from actually being at home, I had ZERO time to do this until today. Aaaand, that was on little sleep, and after a long day at work.

So, my apologies. Wednesday's will be a little bit of the same sort of thing. A 10:30 start, and I have two papers due Thursday morning that I'm going to try and knock out between now and tomorrow night. We'll see.

I had the opportunity last season to talk to Geoff Sanderson after my interview with Umberger. He seemed like a real classy guy.

What he did on Saturday night with that douchebag move of taking a rookie's goal away from him, on a freaking open net, was ridiculous. I thought he was better than that.
