| Breaking News - Holmgren gets two-year extension Holmgren Agrees to Two-year Extension
TFH Exclusive - News out of Philadelphia reports that the Flyers and general manager Paul Holmgren have agreed on two-year extension through the 2008-2009 NHL season.
Holmgren, who officially took over the reigns from former general manager, Bobby Clarke, on November 11th 2006, has received wonderful feedback so far.
"In this year of transition for the Flyers, I think Paul has moved quickly and decisively to better our team on the ice and position us for the future," said Flyers Chairman Ed Snider.
"In a short period of time, Paul has made some good moves which have helped us acquire top young players, prospects and draft picks to add to our core group of players," said Comcast-Spectacor President Peter Luukko. "He has also re-signed veteran players who provide solid leadership to our team. Paul will now be able to continue to focus on the draft, free agency and our future."
Holmgren held the huge task of whether or not to trade former-Flyer Peter Forsberg. The deal so far has been very successful for the Flyers, as they acquired winger Scottie Upshall, defenseman Ryan Parent, and two draft picks from Nashville for Forsberg. Upshall, since joining the team February 17th, has scored four goals and added three assists.
Holmgren also handled his first NHL deadline quite well by strengthening the youth on the team obtaining defensemen Braydon Coburn and Lasse Kukkonen, and goaltender Martin Biron.
The Flyers, that started the season 3-11-1(.200%) until Holmgren took over November 11th, having gone 16-29-10 (.410%). Although this season has been a franchise worst for the organization, the moves Holmgren has made presents a positive looking future for the Flyers.

| Excellent move with Homer. I'm excited to see what he and Don Luce can pull off at the draft and the free agency market.
Put Stevens back with the Phantoms and bring in an experienced Adams-winning coach... with a mustache... and the last name of Burns... and the first name of Pat. Is that too specific? | | | | This Space for Rent Join Date: Sep 2003 Posts: 2,298

| Excellent choice, and I agree, leave Stevens the head coach of the Phantoms after the end of this season, and bring in an experienced guy come offseason, | | | | Mighty Mighty Mick

| I think getting Biron was a great move, and not just as an on-ice improvement, but more importantly for hopefully luring Briere here as a UFA. Like I said, I'm anxious to see what Homer does at the draft table and in the free agency market. | | | | Let's go Flyers.

| Apparently Biron's wife is checking out Philly over the next few days so they're waiting on her approval before signing.

| Glad that Homer gets a chance to spend a couple years at the helm. He has earned it with some great moves so far. | | | | | |
