Default Martin Biron a Flyer, 2nd round pick to Buffalo

Flyers send 2nd round pick to Buffalo for Biron; Esche on the move?

www.philadelphiaflyers.com
(February 27) - The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have acquired 6’3”, 175-pound goaltender Martin Biron (MAHR-tihn BIH-rohn) from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a second round pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, according to General Manager Paul Holmgren.

"This is an opportunity for us to acquire a goaltender that we really like,” said Holmgren in making the announcement. “Biron will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1. He would have been on our shopping list this summer. Trading for him gives us a chance to get a little more familiar with him and he can get a little more familiar with our team and hopefully see a positive direction here and want to stay here."

Biron, 29, posted a 12-4-1 record, 3.04 goals-against average and .899 save percentage in 19 games for the Sabres this season.

Over parts of seven NHL seasons with Buffalo (1995-96 and 1998-99 through 2006-07), Biron has compiled a 134-115-37 record, 2.53 GAA, .909 save percentage and 18 shutouts in 300 career regular season games. He is second on the Sabres All-Time List in shutouts (18) and third in games played (300) and wins (134).

A native of Lac St. Charles, Quebec, Biron was originally drafted by the Sabres in the first round (16th overall) of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.

Now with three goaltenders on the Flyers roster, there are reports that G Robert Esche may be heading to Los Angeles for a mid round pick. Stay tuned to THE FLYERS HIVE for more information.

hopefully we can sign him up.. These next few weeks are important in showing him that the Flyers are moving forward, and that the playoffs are very much in grasp.

Exactly. TSN's article has him saying that he's "ready to negotiate".

I agree, though, these next few weeks are VERY important.
