| Flyers Acquire Petr Nedved! The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have acquired 6?3?, 196-pound left wing Petr Nedved from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for defenseman Dennis Seidenberg, according to General Manager Bob Clarke. In addition, the Flyers will have the option of swapping fourth round draft choices with the Coyotes at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft and third round draft choices with the Coyotes at the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
?Too much of our scoring relied on just one line and we felt we also needed a shot from the point on the power play. Nedved has always been a good scorer and a real good player and we think he?ll solve some of our problems up front,? said Clarke in making the announcement. ?Nedved has great speed, great hockey vision and a great shot, and because of the play of Freddy Meyer and Randy Jones we felt we could give up a young defenseman. Not that we wanted to, but our theory was that we needed some more scoring ability and more skill up front.?
Nedved, 34, played in 25 games this season and recorded two goals and nine assists for 11 points and 34 penalty minutes. Over his 14-year NHL career, Nedved has 303 goals and 388 assists for 691 points and 644 penalty minutes in 914 games with Vancouver, St. Louis, New York Rangers, Pittsburgh, Edmonton and Phoenix. Nedved was originally drafted by Vancouver in the first round (second overall) of the 1990 NHL Entry Draft. He signed with the Coyotes as a free agent on August 26, 2004.
?Obviously I am very pleased and happy to be coming to Philadelphia. I am coming to one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference so I am very excited to play for the Flyers,? said Nedved. "This year has been kind of frustrating as far as offensive production so hopefully I can help Philadelphia and start producing offensively. I want to help the team win hockey games and ultimately the main goal, to win the Stanley Cup.?
Seidenberg, 24, has two goals and five assists for seven points and four penalty minutes in 29 games this season with the Flyers. The 6?1??, 210-pound defenseman has six goals and 14 assists for 20 points and 26 penalty minutes in 92 games over three NHL seasons, all with Philadelphia. Last season Seidenberg helped the Flyers? AHL affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms, capture the Calder Cup Championship.

Hmm Clarke has been busy latley hasn't he!
Has Seidenberg played that bad?? I don't think soo...
He is still a young promising player. Nedved is getting older....
Here are Nedveds amazing stats... 2 Goals 9 Assists -6 plus/minus in 25 games

| I hope Hitch knows something we don't because this move stinks IMO. Nedved is a washed up player, at least Seidenberg has potential. If Nedved can help us win some draws I guess the trade might be worth it in the end. | | | | Senior Member

| ARGGGGH Why would they do this? An aging veteran with veteran with shoddy numbers for a promising young defenseman. I guess we will be seeing plenty more of Bundy....

| dont like this trade...... maybe like 5 years ago it would have been nice. lets just hope nedved can get his game back in gear. Seidenberg hasnt been doing anything great, but i still think he had potential
* just thought, maybe they did this because forsberg has something worse and will miss more time? god lets hope not

| We had an abundant amount of extra young dman. And someone said it before, Siedenburg hasn't done much. He gets hurt a lot too. We really need the depth in center considering Prims situation, so hopefully for Nedved's sake, he can turn his season around.
He did play for the Coyotes too, so give him a break. I like the deal.

| I agree 34 is not old Seidenberg is nothing more than a 5-6 defenseman especially on the Flyers when Rico and Pitt get back and Meyer and Jones have played very well. Nedved's #'s aren't great but maybe he can be rejuvenated like Zhamnov was when he came here in 04. This could also mean that Preems might not be back and he fills a little bit of that hole.

But aside from that, I kinda like this trade. I've been getting impatient with Seindenberg. Nedved makes $2.2 mil though, so I'm guessing Clarke isn't done.

| well, I'll tell you what. I like the idea of this trade. We do need secondary scoring, BADLY. Obviously, when Pitkanen and Desjardins get back we'll have too many d-men.
However, I think we gave up the wrong guy here. The guy who really hasn''t done anything since he was called up is Randy Jones. Which isn't his fault, because he needs more time down in the minors, but his potential would never be more than a 5-6 d-man, as with Seidenberg. Petr Nedved is 34 years old I believe, which isn't too bad. He has a few good years left in him and he'll improve our secondary scoring plus our powerplay, which Seidenberg was not doing. As for all of you who say Seidenberg has potential, he is way too injury prone to be more than a 4-5 d-man.
GOOD trade Clarke | | | | Let's go Flyers.

| I was critical of the Zhamnov trade last season, but he quickly won me over. Until he completely disappeared in the Tampa series, he was one of their best forwards. | | | | Senior Member

| I think this was a good move. As it has been said on this thread a few times, Seids is injury prone, and not more than a 4-5 d-man. He also could not be sent back down to the Phantoms without clearing waivers. Why chance losing him for nothing, if he isn't in the long term plans anymore with the emergance of the Myer and Jones???
As far as Nedved goes, he isn't that old, and playing with some of the talent we have here could spark his play. I think they made a good move here. | | | | | | |
