| Hex, I think for a player swap, this was a good deal. Pho wouldn't have taken Randy Jones straight up for Nedved. I think short term, to fill in the Prim whole, this was a good deal. Clarke must know something about the Prim situation to pull a deal already. Yeah Foppa is out for a few days, but Clarke must have been feeling the weight coming down on him to take into consideration that Prims may not be back, at least this season.
And your right, Sied was quite injury prone, and we know how us Flyers fan hate these darn injuries!!!!!

| I'm a bit skeptical about this trade just yet... could be a good thing but we could have just given a solid future d-man (at least an upgrade on bundus)... the one good thing I can see about this is that Nedved can play winger or center which will come in handy down the road. His record of playing well with non-Europeans isn't good so he'll have to hang on a line with Handzus (which could be good for both of them)...
jury's still out

| He's looking pretty good so far, especially with that assist.
Just created another nice scoring chance, keep it up Neddy | | | | Senior Member

| Nedved's playing, and quite well, mind you. Assisted on Umberger's goal.
TMCC, i agree with you, Phoenix probably wouldn't have taken Jones, and I guess Philly didn't want to risk waivers and losing Seidenberg for nothing..
I'm just hoping we still have some cap space to do another move before the Trade Deadline.
I just hope Seidenberg doesn't tear it up in Phoenix, because then I'd feel bad | | | | H4-H6 Designer Join Date: Jul 2003 Posts: 494

| Here's what I heard....
With Pitkanen returning, it meant that the Flyers would've had to send a d-man back to the Phantoms. Meyer & Jones can be sent back and forth between the Flyers & Phantoms with no issues; however, Seidenberg would have to clear waivers first. This has something to do with the CBA. In essence, the Flyers called up Seidenberg with the hopes that he would play well enough to warrant not being sent back down - he didn't. That left the Flyers with the option of hoping Seids would clear waivers so he could be sent back to the Phantoms, or trade him.
Odds are that Seidenberg would've never cleared waivers & some other team would've picked him up and the Flyers would've received no compensation in return. Instead, Clarke traded Seidenberg for Nedved. $900k of Nedved's $2.2M salary will go against the Flyers cap this year.
Should Prims not come back during the regular season (which is doubtful) barely any of his $3.4M contract will go towards this years cap. Should Prims come back for the playoffs, it won't matter as there are no cap restrictions.
Theoretically, Primeau being on IR means the Flyers can pickup and additional $3.4M in salary. Doug Weight COULD still be added and fit under the cap if you pro rate his salary for the rest of this year.
Getting back on track though...
Dealing Seidenberg simply gave the Flyers more flexibility and a player in return. | | | | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Posts: 183

| I'm not a big fan of Randy Jones' play thusfar, I would have sent him down before trading Seidenberg.
Nedved had a decent game Saturday. He worked the puck along the boards nicely during the power play. Players seem to respect his puck handling abilities sort of how they do with Forsberg...on the otherhand we were playing the Pens. | | | | Senior Member

| yeah, Nedved had a good game. He had a chance for a goal and seemed in the right place at the right time, and he only played somewhere at 15:00 minutes I think.
Had an assist on Umbergers goal, and is a very good player on the power play. | | | | | | |
