Flyers Article Desjardins Out Eight-to-10 Weeks

Source: Flyers.com

Flyers defenseman Eric Desjardins will miss the next eight-to-10 weeks with a right shoulder injury, according to Flyers Athletic Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Coach, Jim McCrossin. Desjardins will have surgery to repair the shoulder at Hahnemann Hospital on Tuesday, December 13.

Desjardins left Tuesday's 1-0 shootout win over Calgary in the first period and did not return.

In 18 games with the Flyers this season, Desjardins has two goals and 12 assists for 14 points 18 penalty minutes.

Below is the transcript of the conversation with McCrossin.

What is the medical update on Eric Desjardins?
Jim McCrossin: ?Eric Desjardins had an MRI today. Following the MRI, he was evaluated by Dr. Peter DeLuca. The MRI revealed that Eric did have a posterior subluxation of his humoral head. (subluxation refers to a partial loss of the Glenohumeral joint articulation to the extent that symptoms were produced or damage was done. A dislocation is when a complete loss of articulation between the humeral head and glenoid socket occur). When the injury occured it tore both the posteral labrum and the inferior border of the Glenohumeral ligament. After Dr. DeLuca performed his evaluation and reviewed the MRI study it was decided that Eric would require surgery. The surgery is going to be performed by Dr. DeLuca and will take place at Hahnemann Hospital on Tuesday, December 13. We are looking for Eric to miss approximately eight-to-10 weeks."

In layman?s terms, was this a shoulder separation or a shoulder dislocation?
JM: ?This was a posterior shoulder subluxation, which in layman's terms means that Eric has a sprain of his right shoulder and will require surgery to repair the instability that was caused by the injury."

Pretty soon if this keeps up the whole lineup may be nothing but players from the Phantoms
