HIVE article Flyers To Buy Out Amonte And LeClair

Source; TSN.ca

The Philadelphia Flyers are buying out the contracts of forwards John LeClair and Tony Amonte.

The buyouts will be announced at a news conference scheduled for Saturday morning, team spokesman Zach Hill said.

The 36-year-old LeClair spent 10 years with the Flyers, and was a member of the famed "Legion of Doom'' line with Eric Lindros and Mikael Renberg in the mid-1990s. He tallied 382 goals and 379 assists overall in the regular season in his career with the Flyers and the Montreal Canadiens; he had 42 goals and 47 assists in the playoffs.

LeClair, who entered the lockout due $9 million US this season, was to make $6.84 million after the leaguewide 24 per cent pay cut.

Amonte, who started the lockout at about $5.61 million, was due $4.26 million. In 14 seasons with New York, Chicago, Phoenix and Philadelphia, Amonte tallied 392 goals and 436 assists in the regular season; he had 20 goals and 31 assists in 86 playoff games.

The buyouts will give the Flyers room to make qualifying offers to restricted free agents and begin negotiations with unsigned rookies.

----------------------------------------

Well We Knew This Was comming , hopefully these two can play else where.

In my opinion, they're both reaching the end of their primes, it was a good business decision by the Flyers.

I Agree Leclair and Amonte were getting old and their contracts were to much. Buying them out will enable us to get a pretty good defensmen which is needed on this team. But on a sad note I will miss Lecair. He has been with the flyers during some really good times and I will always remember him in the 2000 playoffs. Hopefully Amonte and Leclair end up in good cities and can teach some kids how to play hockey. Some where like Columbus, Minnesota, Nashville.

I also thought I heard on Comcast Sports Net that Timander and Rags were leaving the team to play hockey in Sweeden this season.

Ragnarsson Retired from the NHL to play in Sweden and Timander is playing in Sweden.

Rags

Timander
And this is part of an Article...

Negotiates with Modo about a three year contract

Mattias Timander, 31, says with biggest probability is that he will be with Modo. His family is most important. Mattias Timander has a year left with Philadelphia Flyers, but has dialed up GM Bob Clarke and announced that he is breaking the contract.

Thanks Jordan, I was looking for some articles but couldn't find any so I didn't want to confirm it or not, I just saw it on Comcast.

EDIT: Radovan Somik will also be staying in Europe and will not play in the NHL during 05'-06'

Eh... that's probably a good thing.

And LeClair, my favorite Flyer, the one who's jersey I finally bought last playoffs (whenever those were)... will definately be missed.

Amonte really couldn't cut it anymore either but I never cared for him anyway. Good riddance.

It's with mixed emotions that I see John LeClair go. He's been a great Flyer, probably one of the greatest of all time. He was my first favorite hockey player ever to put on a uniform once I saw him in 1995 as an 11-year-old when he first started out with the Flyers. With that said, he's been MIA since the 2000 playoffs. I wish him the best but it was definitely too much to keep him.
