Esche Named NHL Defensive Player of the Week
Flyers goaltender Robert Esche been named the National Hockey League's Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, November 2. He compiled a 3-0-0 record, 0.67 goals-against average, one shutout and .969 save percentage in three games last week.
Esche made 20 saves to record his first shutout of the season, and sixth of his career, in a 5-0 victory against Montreal on October 27, stopped 21 of 22 shots in a 5-1 victory against Florida on October 29 and turned aside 21 of 22 shots in a 7-1 victory at Toronto on November 1.
On the season, Esche has a 3-1-1 record, 1.77 GAA, one shutout and .922 save percentage in five games. He is sixth in the NHL in GAA (1.77).
For Esche, this is the first Player of the Week award in his six-year career.
