Dean Lombardi hired as New Flyers Scout Source: TSN.ca
You can strike Dean Lombardi's name from the list of potential candidates to become the next general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Lombardi, who was mentioned as an early candidate for the post, has accepted an offer from the Philadelphia Flyers to become their Western Conference pro scout. Lombardi was fired as the general manager of the San Jose Sharks back in March and some might consider a scouting role to be a step down. But not Lombardi.
"I'm doing what I like to do best and that's watching players and assessing talent," he tells the San Jose Mercury News. Lombardi also credits Flyers GM Bob Clarke with re-instilling the passion for working in hockey again. He added that he is looking forward to working for someone he has admired as both a player and executive as well as being part of a "very stable organization". |
