| Derian Hatcher Named Flyers Captain "Derian Hatcher Named Flyers Captain", www.philadelphiaflyers.com
Flyers defenseman Derian Hatcher has been named the captain of the team. He becomes the 14th captain of the Flyers in franchise history...
More Information to come..
Well, I'm glad that we finally chose a captain. Hatcher should do the job, like he did in Dallas. This probably means something in regards to Primeau. Looks like he's gone, at least for the season if not for good. I was happy that Gagne showed respect in not taking the C, but we need someone to start acting like a leader and Hatcher can be the man to do it. | | | | Section 212

| yeah I agree, its a good choice.. Gagne was still a bit too young, and Forsberg is injured for too many games at a time.
Maybe Hatcher will do the same for the Flyers that he did for the Stars. | | | | This Space for Rent Join Date: Sep 2003 Posts: 2,297

| Glad to see we finally have a captain who can step up and lead the team. But this makes it look even more like Preems won't be back | | | | Senior Member

| if he comes back, Hitch said that he would make him captain once again. Hatcher's captaincy is so far only temporary, while Kapanen and Gagne have been named permanent assistants. | | | | Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Posts: 95

Prims must have played a big part in this decision ( total class ). I think Hatcher will make alot of players accountable in the dressing room. He won't be scared to tell a guy to pick up his game if he's doggin' it. . . Let's hope this is the move that rights the ship ! ! GO FLYERS GO ! ! ! | | | | The cake is a lie.

| If you ask me:
Primeau will be the captain when he comes back, according to Hitch. However, I really don't think he'll be able to be able to play at the level he always has when he finally comes back. And, also, I don't believe that his return will come this year. That's just my opinion.
I also think that Hatcher was a good choice...
Gagne is still a bit too young to really be able to handle captaincy, and Forsberg just can't get that done with these short stretches of being out. Other candidates one might consider would be Michael Handzus or maybe Kim Johnnson, but, either way, Hatcher seems to be the man to go with.

| The more and more things like this happen, the more it looks like Prims is done for good... for a career and not just this season. I appreciate the way Clarke has treated Prims professionally and respectfully for all he's done from this organization (I actually wouldn't expect it from him). It'll be a tough loss for the Flyers but I'm glad we have someone around like Hatch to step up. I think he's a good choice and he's got that toughness, like Prims, that'll keep people honest on and off the ice.
Let's just hope this is enough of a spark to break the team out of this funk... we are still on top of the division and can turn this thing around quickly.

| I like this move because we need a leader out on the ice whether he is a big goon or not. Hatcher has quietly made a nice adjustment to the new style of play and is one of our more consistent D men.
As for Primeau, I heard last week that he was making significant progress in his training and wasn't experiencing as many side effects. They have him doing things like riding a bike in the dark to make sure he doesn't have vertigo. My Aunt was diagnosed with vertigo and it's very tough to overcome. At times you have no sense of balance on your feet, get light-headed spells frequently, and become disoriented. I hope he makes a full recovery because we need his ice presence!! | | | | | |
