| It's a pretty interesting composure. I mean...Nitty is our future basically. Although, he hasn't showed much of it this year number wise, I think he's doing just fine. Remeber what happened when we traded away Quillet? (Spelling). He's doing amazing now. I don't want that to happen again. | | | | HAI

| If they trade away Niitty, I'm going to be one of many unhappy fans, I'm sure. Yes, Luongo is a great goaltender, but Antero's a great player that can be made better, he's the future of this team.
The rest of the trade looks good to me, we do have an abundance of centers, Zeus' is dealable. I agree with Jeff, let's send them Storr instead. | | | | Senior Member Join Date: May 2004 Posts: 215

| Luongo is only what 1 year older then Nittymaki and has proven alot more then him. He is consider to be one of if not the best goalie in the leauge. I mean he has an above 900 S% on Florida.. has to be pretty good eh?
if it took NItty to get Luongo I would be perfectly happy with the deal. | | | | Let's go Flyers.

| Yeah. I'm still not sure if I'd make that move or not.
I havn't heard anything on it on Sportsnite like we were supposed to, so apparantly it wasn't that serious | | | | Let's go Flyers.

| I highly doubt there's any truth to this rumor, but if there is I'll drive Nitty to the airport myself. Nitty can only hope to be what Luongo already is. Forget the future of this team notion and do what is necessary to win a Cup today.
But Jeff... I hope you were kidding with the send Storr comment. | | | | No Longer Embarrased

| Luongo should have won the Vezina last season, and while he hasn't been as spectacular this year, he's still the best goalie in the league, bar none.
As somebody said, he plays on FLORIDA, set a record for shots against, and still posted superb numbers.

| I understand ridding some of our centers, but even if Esche is out, and whether we had Luongo or Nitty on the Flyers, the fact of the matter is, Jamie Storr is still our backup goalie. Yucky.

| Not sure how much i like this trade. Luongo is amazing, but we are giving up a good bit... can't we just give up Zues and Nitty and a 2nd round pick just for luongo?
dont like trading 1st round picks. and Luongos contract is up by the end of the year anywho, but who knows maybe he can get us a cup | | | | Member

| Clarke: No interest in Luongo
By WAYNE FISH
phillyBurbs.com
PHILADELPHIA - If the Flyers are shopping for a goaltender - and the hot rumor is they're interested in Florida's Roberto Luongo - it's news to general manager Bob Clarke.
Clarke acknowledged Tuesday night that several clubs have called, one offering a goaltender in trade, especially after the news got out that Robert Esche would be out at least another week with an abdominal muscle injury.
But Clarke said Florida is not one of the teams with which he's had conversations.
"I haven't spoken with [Florida GM] Mike Keenan in some time,'' Clarke said before the Flyers-Flames game.
"We like our goaltending. We're not interested at all [in Luongo]. When Esche got hurt, we had other teams call us, not Florida, but we have no interest.''
Buffalo has three NHL-caliber goalies (although Ryan Miller is currently injured), but the Sabres were not one of the teams to approach the Flyers.
"One inquired to see if we wanted to acquire one of theirs,'' Clarke said. "But we didn't. We're fine with what we have. You lose a goalie for a couple weeks, we have someone else to play, that's not a problem.''
Besides, Luongo makes $3.2 million per year, and the Flyers are only about a million under the $39 million salary cap, so a substantial player would have to go to the Panthers to balance the deal.
Florida undoubtedly would want a young star such as Jeff Carter or Mike Richards, and those two players are totally untouchable.
"We have [Antero] Niittymaki,'' Clarke said. "It's time for him to play. He's a good young goalie.'' Clarke: No interest in Luongo | | | | Newbee Join Date: Sep 2004 Posts: 2

| Noooooooooooooo!!!!!!!
Can't deal Zues now, you need a #1 (Forsberg) & a #2 center, (Zues #2).
Can't rely on one of the rookies to be a #2 center yet, trading Zues for Luongo would strengthen one position, yet weaken another!!! | | | | Section 212

| I allways wanted to see "Demitra" in a flyer uniform, could have this year instead of BOTH hatcher & rathje. Bur Hindsight, Without those 2 signings, & now 2 D-men injured, "we would be up the creek" | | | | Forum Enforcer, Wallpaper Designer

Whata bull****!!! Its a shame we have such fans... Flyers isn't a market, trading over and over isn't a good way, there are some prospects who are UNTOUCHABLE (as Clarke said ) like Gagne, Pitkanen, Carter, Richards, and Niittymaki of course - I think it's obvious!
I hope Clarke's statement is up-to-date:
"We're fine with what we have. You lose a goalie for a couple weeks, we have someone else to play, that's not a problem.''
Trading Niittymaki would be more ridiculous than .... ehhh I have no ideas! Simply, it would be stupid!
