| This will make you feel better:
Amonte, Recchi, LeClair - Over the hill, over the hill, and over the hill and injury prone, respectively.
Zhamnov? Played great for a while then disappeared in the Tampa series. He's getting up there in years, also. Not worth the $$ to re-sign (and was probably gone after the season anyway)
Roenick - I'll miss him but come on? Would you rather have an injury-prone Roenick or an injury-prone Forsberg? | | | | Village Jackass

| Well of course they arent gonna be better.. there is a salary CAP. We can't spend as much money anymore, therefore, the good teams will get a little worse, and the bad teams will get a little better.. its all to try and even out the competition

| I feel the Flyers will do just fine , remeber alot of the good teams had to let go of key players to get under the new cap .
and it is true some of the bad team might actully do better with the players they got as a result of the good teams cuttin lose top players to get under the cap
it will definitly be an interresting season Let's Go Flyers

That's exactly it. As a side note, I think it's clear who the best team is when all the cuts and signings are done.
(the Flyers are, in case anyone missed the implication above)

| Anyway those players cannot stay in philadelphia with the new salary caps. I dont tell the flyers are not a good team but i disagree with the fans say the flyers are the best cup contender in the nhl. | | | | No Longer Embarrased

| flyers are (or were) 5-1 favorites for the cup this season:
Notebook: Sportsbook.com improves Penguins' Stanley Cup odds
By The Associated Press
Thursday, August 18, 2005
After a busy offseason, Sportsbook.com has updated the odds on the Penguins' Stanley Cup aspirations, making them a 20-1 favorite from an opening line of 100-1. The additions of Sidney Crosby, Sergei Gonchar, Ziggy Palffy and John Leclair to an exciting, offensive lineup that includes Mario Lemieux could mean a return to glory for the previously troubled franchise.
"The Penguins' front office clearly wants to make a serious run at the Cup and re-establish the Penguins as a force in the NHL," said Peter Childs, oddsmaker for Sportsbook.com. "This is going to be one of the most exciting offenses in the league, and Pittsburgh could again be a hotbed of hockey."
The original odds were posted once the NHL and the NHLPA agreed to a new collective bargaining agreement earlier this summer. Since then, the Penguins have been one of several teams to make a big splash in the free agent market. Others include the Philadelphia Flyers, who are the favorites to win the Cup at 5-1, Chicago, who improved their odds to 35-1 after signing Nikolai Khabibulin, and the Calgary Flames, who resigned Jarome Iginla and added veterans Tony Amonte and Roman Hamrlik. | | | | Mighty Mighty Mick

| "who are the favorites to win the Cup"
Music to my ears. But they were also projected to win last year going into the Leafs series. Let's get it done!

| there is no way that someone could argue against the Flyers this season. I'll admit, I definately root for my team to a fault...but seriously, this is the one move (signing Forsberg) that is going to get this team over the hump and bring the Cup back to Philly. he brings so much more than his own personal talents to the ice. he brings the leadership capabilities that a team needs to develop young players, and to help everyone else reach their potential. it isn't a fluke that the 'Lanche had so many studs on that team that came up through their own system. | | | | Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Posts: 67

| my brain is going! (stupid work gets in the way sometimes though hehe) to continue, the Flyers finally realized (now that there is a salary cap) the importance of developing their young talent. the Phantoms were awesome last year, and the league shouldn't be surprised that several members of that team will be making the leap into the NHL this season. As much as I'll miss JR and Recs, the value of a Peter Forsberg is going to be quite clear as this season progresses | | | | Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Posts: 67

| one last thing (then I'll wait for other comments, I promise!), to have a battle between Esche and Nitty this season...I can think of worse problems for Hitch to have to deal with. based on past experience and so far this preseason, the Flyers are going to be SET between the pipes. Esche is the proven guy, but after watching Nitty in the Calder Cup finals last season...he's something else. for all those seeing him for the first time, trust me, you are in for a real treat...because you are watching the Flyers #1 goalie heading into the 06-07 playoffs | | | | Newbee Join Date: Aug 2005 Posts: 28
