| I'll summarize it...
Look at the game stats of the Sabres game. Niittymaki saved only 6 of 8 shots he faced. Esche comes in and saves 10 of 14. They had 6 goals on 22 shots. We better be earmarking some of our cap room for a #1 goalie this summer. | | | | Shout Masta

| crap, it's supposed to be "Scathing Report" not "Scatching" duh
keep trying the link...their website sucks
basically, the writer is saying we're screwed in the goalie department. While I don't necessarily agree, he makes some good points.

| I still think Nitty shows a lot of promise... Esche, well... he can have his good days, but with that many bad days... I just don't know. Overall, yes, I think we do need a good goaltender, and should go through some lengths to get it... perhaps Nitty and the recently acquired first-rounder? Or Esche, Hatcher... there's got to be something. I liked those Biron rumors.

| eh, Biron brings nothing new to the deal. He can dominate games, just like Esche, but he has his horrible games, less often than Esche, but he still has them. What we need is a consistent goalie. And yes, the only guys that I think would fit the bill would be Marty Turco, Marty Brodeur, Roberto Luongo, Vesa Toskala (to a lower degree than the others), and Manny Fernandez. I highly doubt we could nab any of these guys for a reasonable price during the offseason. However, I wouldn't mind trying Nabakov. He has the skillset to be a #1, and is still in his prime years. | | | | The cake is a lie.

| The only guys we might have a chance of getting in that list would be Toskala or Nabakov. The other guys... don't count on it. Anytime soon.
Honestly, if you look at a list of goaltenders on NHL.com... It doesn't look good. Most of the better guys are either young and impossible to part with, or would require phenomenal bargaining room, which we don't have. Personally... In addition to the San Jose guys, I wouldn't be surprised to be seeing some bargaining for Olaf Kolzig, Manny Legace... Perhaps even Dwayne Roloson. It's really hard to say.

| I do believe NIitty is having an off year due to his nagging hip. I definately thing we should keep him around next year and bring in another tender and have them battle for the #1.
Esche, I agree, he can be great one game and absolutely lousy the next. Sounds to me like he needs to consider being a #2 with that type of play. Although ya never know, a change of scenary my bring out the best in him. But I think his days in Philly are numbered.
