HIVE article Flyers beat Islanders, 2-1, remain undefeated at home...

Source: ESPN.com

Jeremy Roenick had a goal and assist, and Mark Recchi scored the go-ahead goal to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to their fourth straight win, 2-1 over the New York Islanders on Tuesday night.

Jeff Hackett stopped 23 shots, and center Michal Handzus made a brilliant save to help Philadelphia win for the fifth time in six games and remain unbeaten at home (5-0-2). Vancouver (7-0-1) is the only other NHL team without a home loss.

Adrian Aucoin scored for the Islanders, who have lost consecutive games for the first time this season. New York blew a 2-0 lead in a 4-3 loss to Atlanta on Saturday.

Just 50 seconds after the Islanders tied it at 1 in the second period, Recchi gave the Flyers another lead with his fifth goal. Marcus Ragnarsson's shot from outside the circle was knocked down by Aucoin in front of the net, but Recchi got the rebound and slid it past Islanders goaltender Garth Snow.

Snow, a former Flyers player, had 31 saves. He was unbeaten his previous three starts.

The best save of the night came early in the second period when Handzus slid into an empty net and stopped a point-blank shot by Shawn Bates after Trent Hunter drew Hackett away from the crease with a terrific move.

Roenick gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead with 4:28 left in the first. He took a centering pass from Tony Amonte and slapped it past Snow for his seventh goal.

The Islanders tied it on a power-play goal by Aucoin midway through the second. Alexei Yashin won the faceoff and sent the puck to Janne Niinimaa at the point. Aucoin one-timed the pass from Niinimaa between Hackett's legs just five seconds into the man-advantage for his first goal.

Game Notes
The line of Roenick, Recchi and Amonte has 44 points in 14 games this season. The trio was united during a four-game West Coast trip when Recchi joined the trio after Radovan Somik went down with a knee sprain.< ^Notes: Islanders C Jason Wiemer was a healthy scratch. General manager Mike Milbury told him to stay home over the weekend because the team is trying to trade or waive him for financial reasons. Wiemer is making $1.62 million this season. ... Amonte has a nine-game point streak, tying his career-best and the longest current streak in the NHL. He has six goals and seven assists in that span. ... The Flyers are 7-0-3 in their last 10 regular-season home games, dating to last season. ... The Islanders were unbeaten in their previous five games in Philadelphia (4-0-1). The Flyers' last win at home over the Islanders was on Feb. 1, 2001. ... Hackett has consecutive 2-1 victories.
